Deck House

The Deck House is a unique destination for a coastal meal, due to its eye-catching location in a former Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church and that was built in 1946. With a completely renovated interior that features wooden tables, booths, and floors, as well as ship sails towering overhead, the Deck House is a true dining experience from the inside out.

As one would expect from such a heavy application of maritime décor, the big focus on the Deck House’s menu is seafood. Patrons will want to start a multi-course meal with a big bowl of grouper chowder – a local favorite – and then move on to a coastal appetizer, like hot crab dip, grouper nuggets, or sautéed mussels. From there, diners will have a hard time of choosing from the collection of seafood and “from the grill” entrees, (which includes several choice steaks including filet mignon, top sirloin, and ribeye), but when in doubt, opt for the Chef Specialties. In this corner of the menu, patrons will find creative delicacies like a shrimp and scallop stir fry, sesame encrusted tuna, Grouper Piccata, and New Orleans Style Shrimp and Grits. Always tasty, and a real delight for seafood fans, this restaurant combines Carolina Beach history and local flavor in one delicious bite.

Museums near Wrightsville Beach

Because of Wrightsville Beach’s long legacy as a hot vacation destination, as well as its proximity to a collection of historically or environmentally significant sites, the community is close to a wealth of museums where furthering an area education is always a fun adventure. Dedicate an afternoon or two to checking out these area museums for an opportunity to fully discover the Cape Fear region – from its early roots to its current status as one of the most unique corners of the Carolinas.

Freeman Park

The northernmost coastal region of Carolina Beach is home to the Freeman Park Recreation Area, a stretch of shoreline that is well known to adventurous, beach-loving 4WD truck owners. Unlike other stretches of the barrier islands off the coast of Wilmington, this park is special because it is completely undeveloped, and allows beach driving to off-roaders who like to cruise along the sand.
