Strategies to get the perfect Southport vacation home experience:

Finding the best value:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wrightsville Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Wrightsville Beach visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. On the Marsh in St. James \/ Close to Oak Island & Southport - Beach Access\n\n has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your contract.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
