SODA POP COTTAGE
Sit back and relax in this exquisitely appointed coastal bungalow near the buzz and family-friendly excitement of an emerging neighborhood. The historic home features an adorable, private fenced backyard and uses retro-modern furnishings with exposed wood, metal accents, and natural colors to hint at the close by beaches. Two blocks over is Soda Pop District’s famed Hi-Wire Brewery and Bowstring Brewpub, but we’re within a mile of the Wilmington Riverwalk and a short drive to beachfront towns.

HOME
The home has three bedrooms with sleeping arrangements for six: a queen bed in the front bedroom, another queen bed in the middle bedroom, a sleeper couch in a flex bedroom/office and another sleeper in the living room. Upon arrival you are welcomed by an adorable front porch that leads to the well appointed main living area. Here we find an abundance of natural light, a vintage fireplace, and cheerfully-inspired furnishings complemented by a 58-inch T.V.. The front bedroom features the warmth of wood decor with its own roomy private bathroom. The dining room has seating for six at a farmhouse table and leads to a second bedroom that features a private bathroom of its own.

Finally, an refreshed kitchen with new appliances and tiled backsplash will draw you to prepare a meal or simply appreciate a hot or cold Keurig brew. It also provides access to the laundry room with a full-sized washer and dryer as well as a third bedroom that combines an office with a sleeper couch and its own wall-mounted TV. Please don’t let the gently rolling floors fool you - you haven’t had anything to drink (yet). The uneven structure has been frozen in time and captures the appeal of the natural settling since construction in 1935.

This clean yet comfortably updated home is located at the outskirts of the rapidly developing Soda Pop District, named for the former Coca-Cola bottling plant that was constructed here at the same time as our home. There are a variety of eateries and attractions - with more being added. The neighborhood is blossoming with remodel activities, so please be patient. As an up-and-coming downtown area, you can expect diverse housing. We have a combination of freshly restored homes like ours, low-income housing, and homes/apartments under renovation or in need of renovation. This is not a long-time tourist spot and there are still many locals who have called this place home for decades. Please respect this - as we have learned about a great sense of community here. For now, take advantage of below market pricing during this area's evolution.

Each day, however, can bring special experiences in the immediate area. Wake up to the sounds of birds chirping and frolicking in the bird bath located within the privately fenced backyard. You are invited to cross the tiny wooden bridge over the dry riverbed to the shaded sitting area beneath the ole’ oak tree. Among the chirps of feathered friends, you just might hear the sound of freedom as F-18 Hornets sometimes engage in training exercises overhead.

As the morning takes shape, you may take a 5 min. walk to Folks Café, a local hole-in-the-wall eatery with specialty coffees and daily breakfast specials influenced by their Argentinian heritage. Grab one of the baked breakfast treats or homemade empanadas and savor it on the quirky back patio.

When lunchtime rolls around, walk a bit further to ‘The Half’, a sandwich shop tucked inside an old Mutual Life Insurance branch that was a part of the world’s biggest black-owned enterprise. Now it is a place for globally-inspired sandwiches, rotating artwork, and unique beer collaborations with some of the top breweries in the country.

Just two blocks from our home is the heart of the Soda Pop district. Here we find the award-winning Hi-Wire Brewery, an Asheville original now locally housed in an old car dealership. Here you find mesmerizing murals that surround 24 beer and wine taps in a family-friendly ambiance featuring activities from table tennis to foosball. Next door is Cugino Forno, a Neapolitan pizzeria armed with two hand-made, wood-fired ovens and a spinning freezer that displays a dozen flavors of gelatos imported from Italy. On the same block is the neighborhood’s newest addition, Bowstring Burgers and Brewyard - a legend in Raleigh and now ready to spread its wings in the Soda Pop District. In addition to their 16 taps and proven recipe for thin, juicy burgers, there is a full bar with high-end bourbons and tequilas as well as an indoor/outdoor venue for local music acts and national tour groups alike.

Just outside the immediate vicinity of the Soda Pop District - but still within a mile - is the heart of downtown Wilmington and the award winning Wilmington Riverwalk. In 2015 it was ranked as the top riverfront in the country by USA Today - and has taken various top 10 positions since. From our home to the riverwalk you will find more coffee stores, three more breweries, three museums, more music venues, and too many eateries to count. And it’s just one-and-a-half miles to Riverfront Park and Port City Pier, premier venues for both paid and complimentary riverside music. Lastly, it is a short 20 min. drive to Wrightsville Beach, 30 mins. to Carolina Beach, and 45 mins. to Oak Island and Southport. This is really a spectacular springboard to all that the Cape Fear area has to offer.

Guest Access
Through the use of a coded intelligent lock, you will have access to the entire home except for a single storage closet. As stated earlier, this includes a entirely equipped kitchen, a bright living room, an ample dining room, two bedrooms with private baths, a third bedroom/office, and a cozy, private fenced backyard with plenty of greenery and a shady refuge from the sun. There is ample parking on the street next to the home and additional parking along the freshly remodeled park across the street.

Other Things to Note
There is a $120 cleaning fee which includes weekly service with sheet and towel replacement. The home is dog-friendly for a modest $60 fee. Sorry, no other types of family pets are allowed. There is a 10% discount for week-long units and a 15% discount for 28-day units. Despite being one story, there are a few steps up to the front porch and a single step up to the back door through the rear gate. House rules are simple: no smoking, no events or events, no pets unless prearranged and prepaid, and no bad vibes.

Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Wrightsville Beach area. To get the best rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Wrightsville Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Wrightsville Beach area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Wrightsville Beach area:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Renovated Cottage in Soda Pop District; 2 blocks to Hi-Wire & Bowstring has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, call the host before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is optimal for your group.
  • If there's a particular Wrightsville Beach beach you long to visit, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
