Tips and Tricks for getting the best Oak Island vacation home experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • In the Wrightsville Beach area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Summer is high season in the Wrightsville Beach area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Wrightsville Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Wrightsville Beach area travel guides that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to pick the best vacation rental in Oak Island:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. A Beach Music Paradise: Dog-friendly Island Home with Ocean Views and Easy Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
  • If there's a certain Wrightsville Beach beach you crave, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
